These days, few commentaries cause vegans more despair than those proclaiming the virtues of eating “humane” meat, those promoting the ethics of eating “sustainable” meat, or those insisting on the nutritional necessity of eating any meat. Exasperated vegans wonder why, despite years of seemingly successful campaigning to raise awareness about the impact of animal agriculture on animals, the environment, and human health, these same concerns would actually be used to defend meat eating.
These wholesome patties made with brown rice and hemp seeds are a little crisp on the outside, and soft and moist on the inside. Serve on their own, or inside whole-grain pita pockets with veggies and condiments.

Only plants synthesize carbohydrates (sugars). The body parts of animals, including red meat, poultry, seafood, and fish, and eggs, contain no carbohydrates. Animal secretions (like mammalian milk) contain sugars synthesized by plants (the cow eats the grass that made the sugar). The original Atkins Diet is the ultimate in low-carb eating. This diet works by starving the human body of carbohydrates in order to induce a state of illness (ketosis), which can result in weight loss. People become too sick to eat too much.
Houston Texans star running back Arian Foster said he is trying a vegan diet. On July 5, he tweeted, “Officially a vegan now. We’ll see how this goes. But week one down. So far, so good. Feels wonderful.”
Foster is apparently a fan of Forks Over Knives – a few days later he tweeted, “Yes I have [seen Forks Over Knives], great film.”
In 2011, Foster ran for 1,224 yards and caught 53 passes, making him one of the top running backs in the game. In March, he reportedly signed a five-year, $43.5 million contract with Houston.

In 2008 I had double bypass surgery. Two years later, both grafts were completely blocked. One was stented and the other could not be fixed. In October of 2011, I had another blocked artery that could not be stented. Being 54 years old and out of options, I was put out of work on disability. My total cholesterol could not be accurately measured because my triglycerides were near 600. My cardiologist said there was nothing more to do. I have 13-year old twin girls and wanted to see them grown.
